Feng Shui for your Bedroom

As far as positive and calming energy goes, the bedroom might be the most important place in your Connecticut house.  That’s why you should establish a most desirable “chi,” which is Feng Shui for “energy”.  Feng Shui is a popular option for modern interior designers.  It is an ancient, extensive set of Chinese rules for creating a harmonious space.  In a bedroom, this extends to nourishing and embracing sensuality, as well as peace and rest.

Obviously, the bed is the most important piece of furniture, the room’s focal point.  A solid, strong headboard should be against the wall that has no doors or windows.  The bed should face the door so if you are in bed, you can see anyone who enters the room.  At the same time, the bed should not be in line with the door.  The bed should be placed so that it is accessible at three sides.  There should be two nightstands on either side.  The mattress should be firm and the sheets made of a high-quality, natural fiber.  Natural materials in the bed are essential for creating positive “chi.”

There should be several lighting options in a Feng Shui bedroom.  Invest in a dimmer switch, and natural candles that do not have any toxins or chemicals.  Light is our primary nutrient and a powerful transporter of energy.  For color in the bedroom, Feng Shui dictates that “skin colors” are essential.  That is, the color of the human skin, which is a broad range, yet natural, soft and familiar.  Color emits energy that gives us a most restful, restorative sleep.  As far as decorating, Feng Shui suggests art that shows images and evokes emotions that you would like happening in your own life.

If the weather permits, keep the windows open in your bedroom.  Stale air negatively affects your “chi.”  Feng Shui does not promote houseplants in the bedroom, as they are believed to disrupt proper sleep in untainted air.  If you have a big bedroom, plants may be kept farthest away from the bed.  Feng Shui advocates the use of a top-notch air-purifier in the bedroom for extra oxygen and airflow.

Do not have electronic equipment such as a computer, television, or workout machines in your bedroom.  Bulky electric items destroy positive “chi”.  One of the best ways to a harmonious and restful bedroom is by channeling energy properly.  This means keeping the bedroom doors closed at night, the closet and bathroom doors included.  Funneling the right energy at night will give you pleasurable dreams, restoring sleep, love, and spiritual healing.  A Feng Shui designer can transform your bedroom into an inviting, calm space that is also fun and functional.
