One way you can extend the living space to your home is by bringing the outdoors in. Outdoor living spaces are the perfect space for entertaining family, relaxing with friends, as well as adding value to your home. Here are a few steps to help you decorate your front porch.

Step One:

Your entry way is the welcoming mat to your home. Your front porch makes the first impression to people who choose to enter your home. It is best to make the entrance to your home both warm and appealing.

One way to make your home stand out is to choose a color scheme that is a lighter or deeper tone than the rest of the home.  Always choose a bold color for your front door; shades of red and black are always a good choice. To decorate your front door, add a beautiful, large, over-sized wreath. It will add both character and style to your home, as well as creating a inviting and welcoming appeal.

Step Two:

The front porch is an extension to your home. It is best to try to bring the indoors out. A good way to do so is to decorate your front porch with furniture. When adding furniture, it is best to try to create a seating arrangement that is both comfortable and functional. There are many new styles and functions of outdoor furniture. The most important thing is to find outdoor furniture that best fits you and your family's needs.

If your furniture setting doesn't match, it is easy to change its appearance with spray paint. This will allow you to coordinate all of your furniture pieces in the same color and tie your furniture setting together.

If you are going to spend a lot of time outdoors, you are going to be surrounded by a lot of open space. If this is the case, it is a good idea to invest in window coverings. Drapery panels, roll up shades and mini blinds are all good choices. They provide shielding from the sun, create privacy and add a decorative touch.

Step Three:

Adequate lighting is a must. Whether you are spending the evening relaxing with the family or entertaining friends, proper lightening will set the mood for a warm and comfortable living space.

Outdoor wall sconces are a good choice. It sets the mood and also makes a great nightlight. By adding a decorative light fixture or ceiling fan in the center of the room adds character to your new living space.

Step Four:

Make your front porch personal. Since your front porch is part of your extended home; make it personal.  Add potted plants, decorative throw pillows and cushions, flower arrangements, decorative throw rugs and art work.

Decorate your front porch, as you would your indoor living space; after all, you're bringing the outdoors in.
