Paint is an easy, fun and inexpensive way to give a child's bedroom a new look without the high cost of a remodel. Painting a child's room is not much different than painting any other living space in your Connecticut home, but it is important to select a paint finish that is both practical and durable.

Step 1
Select a paint that is durable enough to withstand a good washing or cleaning. This is important as small children tend to easily mark the walls with toys, crayons, markers, pencils, pens and fingerprints.

Step 2
Always select a color choice carefully. Allow your child to select two colors he or she likes and dislikes to give you an idea of their personal style and taste. Experts believe some colors can make a huge impact on a child's development and growth.

Dark blue and black tend to create sadness and sorrow, where soft shades of pink, yellow and greens create a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere.

Step 3
Once your child has made their color selection, tape off any areas of the space you don't want painted. It is a good idea to place drop cloths on the floor and over existing furniture. This will avoid paint from splattering on areas you don't want painted and will reduce clean up time.

Step 4
Shake and mix your primer. Pour it into a paint tray and apply to the walls. It is a good idea to use a paint brush on areas that are hard or impossible to reach with a paint roller, including corners and edges near the ceiling. Allow proper dry time. It is a good idea to read the label on the paint can and to follow the instructions accordingly. By applying a primer, it is likely you will only have to apply one coat of paint, instead of two coats.

Step 5
Shake, mix and pour your paint into a paint tray. Roll the paint on the walls with a roller. Try to roll the paint evenly. It is a good idea to use a paint brush on areas that are hard or impossible to reach with a paint roller, including corners and edges near the ceiling.

Step 6
Allow the paint proper dry time, which is important for a professional outcome.

Step 7
Once the paint has dried, it is time to remove painter's tape from the walls. Before you peel the tape off, gently run a razor blade or box cutter slowly along the edge. Avoid pressing too hard, as it will scar or cut the wall. Once this process has been completed, gently pull the painter's tape off the wall.

Step 8
Once the hard work is done, it is time to make the space personal.  Add accessories that reflect your child's many interests to really make it feel like their home!
