Whether your pool in Connecticut is recently installed or you are looking to jazz up the existing one, there are some great exterior design options that go along with the theme of having fun in the sun.  Of course, safety comes first.  With that in mind, consider some surrounding summer accents to enjoy each time you take a dip or sunbathe.

Cool patio paving choices

The last thing you want is a dull parking lot-style patio around your pool. Also, keep in mind that the people using the pool will be most likely barefoot. The walking surface should be comfortable and cool to the touch, smooth bunt not slippery.

For that reason you may want to avoid pavement and concrete, which will become overheated under the sun and burn your bare feet.  Wooden pool decks and vinyl are the patio materials of choice where the sun beats hard.

Paving stone and ceramic tiles are handsome surface options for a pool patio.

Consider sun-reflecting paints on an existing pool patio, or resurface the patio with a stay-cool product.

Patio Furniture

Get creative with patio furniture.  Think of your pool patio as an extension of your home interior.  Do you like edgy?  Contemporary?  Classic?
Think about reclining Adirondack chairs with water-resistant cushions.
Invest in big sturdy umbrellas for the patio table with nautical stripes.
Wrought iron glass tables add an air of extravagance, if you plan on entertaining poolside.
Keep it comfortable, functional, and stylish.

Be sure to provide shady shelters around your pool. Large umbrellas, pergolas, and trellises work great.  Think about a low-maintenance climbing vine to train through the trellis or overhead latticework.  This will add shade and greenery charm.  Scented vines such as jasmine are lovely, be forewarned that the fragrance tends to attract bees.  You may want to keep these a little further off the beaten path.

Pool Landscaping

When it comes to plants and pool landscaping, stay away from growths that tend to drop fruit or excessive leaves.  This can lead to damaged pool filters and constant cleaning.

Also, while a freshly planted tree or large shrub will add handsome aesthetics as it grows, it may just end up a burden.  Roots may burst through the walls of your pool—quite a costly problem.  It is nice to add plants around the pool to your taste, but do your homework or seek the advice of a Connecticut Landscaping professional before you regret what may become a green headache.

The pool patio is a fabulous place to “garden.”  Install planters around the border, tiers of plant stands, and hanging pots.  A patio “fire pit” is a pot that sits in its own self-contained stand, is great for night pool parties, along with tiki torches.

Remember, no matter what, that a safe strong fence and ample lighting are imperative choices for your swimming pool landscape.
