Over time, old or existing ceiling tiles in our Connecticut homes may need to be replaced for various reasons. While some reasons may be quite obvious, others may be far more subtle and undetectable. Here are 4 signs to look for to indicate if your existing ceiling tiles may need to be replaced.

Sign 1
With time and age the appearance of your existing ceiling tiles can become discolored and unattractive to look at. Breaking pipes or leaks, as well as your home's heating source over time can cause tiles to yellow and stain. The biggest problem and reason that is responsible for yellowing the ceiling tiles in your home is cigarette smoke.

When your ceiling tiles become discolored, they are no longer attractive to look at and it is time for them to be replaced.

Sign 2
Like anything else, ceiling tiles have a life span. There life span usually lasts 10 years. With time, ceiling tiles can stain, warp, and become weak and brittle causing them to break. If this occurs it is time to replace them.

Sign 3
Ceiling tiles made prior to 1981 may contain asbestos and should be replaced. Asbestos may and can be extremely hazardous to your health. There are strict guidelines one must follow to remove asbestos ceiling tiles from your home.

Sign 4
If you recently renovated or updated your home, your existing ceiling tiles will more than likely show their age and take away from the new elements of your home. Always include your ceiling tiles as part of the process when renovating your home.
