Regular ceiling maintenance will help keep your Connecticut ceiling in good shape for years to come.  Ceiling tiles come in a large variety of different styles, colors and materials such as acoustic, metal and tin. Each comes with their own set of challenges, especially when it comes to cleaning. For cleaning techniques and cleansers it is best to check the manufacturer's recommendations.

When you decide it is time to clean a room, it is recommended you start from the top of the room and work your way to the bottom of the room. If you choose only cleaning the ceiling tiles, be sure to cover the furniture and flooring to protect them against dust particles. Here is a list of guidelines that will explain what and how to clean different types of ceiling tiles.

Porous ceiling tiles are best known as acoustic tiles. This type of ceiling tile is found in older homes and some commercial buildings. These ceiling tiles are the hardest to clean and maintain, as they consist of porous fibers. They are neither smooth nor sealed. When cleaning these tiles use a feather duster. It will remove most of the loose dust.

Another alternative for cleaning is to use a vacuum cleaner and its attachments. This will easily remove dust, dirt and spider webs.

Metal ceiling tiles are pressed together from detailed designs. It is easy for dirt and dust to build up in the grooves. Certain metal ceiling tiles are shiny and polished, where others are painted. These tiles are usually found in older homes. To clean metal and tin ceiling tiles, use feather duster and lightly dust over the surface. A gentle touch is required to avoid scratching or damaging the surface.

If your metal or tin ceiling tiles get really dirty, wipe them clean with a gentle mix of water and dish soap. The dirt should easily wipe off leaving your metal ceiling tiles fresh and clean. You may want to replace ceiling tiles that refuse to come clean.

Some people don't know, but the most common household ceiling tiles are synthetic. They are made of vinyl or PVC plastic. Synthetic ceiling tiles come in a large variety of finishes and styles. They are equally as detailed as metal and have a clean, smooth surface, as well as being waterproof and very easy to clean and maintain.

Once you have cleaned the ceiling tiles, they should look and shine like new. Like other types of tiles, if you have one that refuses to come clean the best option is to replace it with a new tile.
