Decorating Your Bathroom

After the bathroom remodeling process is complete, now comes the fun part: decorating this new space in your Connecticut home. Always take into consideration who the bathroom is for.  Are your children primarily going to occupy the space, or is a master bath off the master bedroom? Is this bathroom going to be used by guests? All of these are good questions and each factor is important when decorating a bathroom.

Always remember when decorating a bathroom that there are only two real goals to keep in mind. First, you will want to make the bathroom as relaxing as possible. Second, you will want to create an open feel and make the room look as large and airy as possible. All of these statements depend on how you approach a color scheme, and what added accessories you will use in your new space.

Many professional decorators have a theory, "light for the paint, medium for furniture and window sills, and dark for accessories." A lighter paint makes the room look larger and serves as a base for trim and accessories. Dark accessories stand out and draw the eye to them. If accessories are added in a tasteful way, it will add excitement and intrigue to any bathroom décor.

Experts claim if your bathroom is solely occupied by children, decorate in a fashion best suited for children. These same experts suggest decorating in a sea or water theme. Walls can be painted in tones of blues or greens, and a shade suited for the color of sand can be used for accessories and accents. Adding a chair rail fish border is also a good suggestion for a water-themed room. Always be creative -- stencil a beach theme on the walls from the starfish in the water to a beach ball or umbrella in the sand for an added touch.

If given the opportunity to decorate a guest bathroom, do so. This will give you the place to test your creative and decorating skills. Painting the walls in your guest bathroom gold with added accents of black will set the tone for a feeling of wealth and luxury. Many people are stepping outside the box and staying away from traditional colors in the bathroom. Many are going with deep, dark shades of chocolate browns.

Experts warn people against using shades of yellow, peach or lime green because one can and will quickly become tired of the color. Best selections include warm tones that are appealing and welcoming to the eye. After selecting the perfect pallet, coordinate towels, shower curtains, window draperies and tile in a compatible color. Suggested colors schemes are off white and eggshell for the walls. Always accessorize to suit your own individual needs, style and taste.

Decorating your bathroom is only limited to your imagination. It is best to research all your options and see what the popular trends and styles are available, and make your choices wisely.
