Carpenters and woodworkers can make items that add a finished and unique look to any home. One example of the craftsmanship that these professionals can add to your home renovation is trim and molding around doors, windows and wall and/or floor joints. Trim and molding comes in all shapes and sizes from simple and classic to ornate and luxurious. The type that you choose for your home will depend on your taste as well as which room your are renovating.
Crown molding is one of the more popular types of trim for home owners. Crown molding characterized by the fact that the wood is cut to flare out at the top and the bottom. The mid section of crown molding is curved inward and the ends splay out to slightly overlap the ceiling and the wall. The ends of these pieces can be left plain or carved with intricate designs. Crown molding is placed at the top of the wall, around interior doors and around windows. This type of molding is purely used for decorative purposes to give the room a more completed look and feel.
Another popular type of trim is called chair molding. Chair molding is installed in the middle of the wall and runs the perimeter of the room. This type of trim can be large in the middle and tapered towards the edges. Its can also be large at the top then thins out towards the bottom. Chair molding both decorative and functional. This molding is often placed in dining rooms, living rooms and bedrooms to prevent furniture from being placed directly against the wall. This protects the wall, thereby allowing less maintenance to the paint and the drywall. This molding is also used for decorative purposes. Some home owners choose to use chair molding as the sole decoration in the room. However, this molding can also be used in conjunction with wall paper and paneling that lies between the molding and the baseboards.
Baseboards are another type of trim that home owners install to complete a room. Baseboards are typically installed at the bottom of the wall where the wall and floor meet. Baseboards are most often plain strips of wood that are used to give the room a more finished look after a remodel or when building a new home. However, they can also be made to have a more decorative appearance with intricate carvings and designs. Once installed in a space, the room will have the look and feel of a finished product.
No matter which type of trim that you choose, the results will leave you in amazement. Trim, molding and other woodworking make a space more ascetically appealing and serve the purpose of completing the room. Adding these accents to the rooms in your home will make your home renovation feel more finished.
